Diseases and pests
Violet is susceptible to the same diseases as other indoor plants. They usually appear as a result of violation of growing rules and are destructive to the flower .
Saintpaulia may develop:
- Powdery mildew - appears during the off-season. It is enough to spray once with any fungicide (for example, topaz).
- Fungal rot is a consequence of improper care. The best treatment is prevention. From time to time, water the soil with trichodermine or phytosporin .
- Thrips - attack young leaves and flowers. In this case, they resort to chemicals (Aktellik, Fitoverm, Aktara).
- Mealybug - cotton balls appear at the base of the leaves. Any specialized drug will do .

Biological description
Representatives of the genus are low-growing evergreen perennial herbaceous plants.
Stems are shortened, with a basal rosette of leaves.
The leaves are leathery, covered with villi, round, usually with a slightly unequal heart-shaped base, with a rounded or short-pointed apex. They can be either a uniform green color or spotted.
Hybrid Saintpaulia leaf
The flowers have five petals, collected in racemes. There are two stamens. The gynoecium is paracarpous (that is, unilocular with wall placentation), of two carpels. It has one pistil with a superior ovary.
Hybrid Saintpaulia bud
Saintpaulia also has a calyx consisting of five sepals.
The fruit is a capsule with numerous small seeds with a straight embryo.
Saintpaulia is characterized by rapid growth. Life expectancy is 3-4 years, then decorative qualities are lost. Such specimens are rejuvenated by re-rooting the top. Uzambara violet blooms almost continuously.
