Spathiphyllum or Women's Happiness is a genus of evergreen herbaceous plants from the Araceae family. Grown for its large, attractive leaves and flowers, consisting of a yellow or cream-colored spathe surrounded by a white, dense, sail-like spathe. Culture is also valued for its not too capricious nature. When encountering the plant for the first time, the owners begin to wonder why spathiphyllum flowers turn green, which were white just yesterday, whether it is dangerous and what to do.
Is this normal?
Experienced plant growers are aware that the spathiphyllum flower has a spathe, also called a bract, whose bright “feminine happiness” color attracts insects for pollination.
The color of the bedspread can be different: from pale it gradually turns into greenish, sometimes this color can be too saturated. Many people are interested in why spathiphyllum produces green flowers. This color change is alarming. There is nothing wrong with greening of inflorescences, since this is a normal process, but sometimes this can also happen due to a disease. It is important to understand the reasons in time.
Symptom No. 5. Spathiphyllum does not grow
Spathiphyllum does not grow green mass: it does not produce new leaves or produce shoots.
Reason #1. Big pot
Remember that spathiphyllum first grows its root system, and then begins to develop leaves. Therefore, if you transplanted the plant into a pot that is too large, you will have to wait until the root system grows and entangles the lump of earth. Only after this the growth of green mass will begin.
This pot is too large for a young spathiphyllum. Need a transplant!
What to do?
If you don’t want to wait several months, you will have to transplant the spathiphyllum into a smaller pot - 1-2 cm larger in diameter than the root system.
Reason #2. Inappropriate lighting
Spathiphyllum may slow down in growth if the lighting is too intense or, conversely, poor.
What to do? Move the spathiphyllum to a well-lit place, without direct sunlight.
When is greening caused by disease and when is it natural?
- Natural reasons include the age of the spathiphyllum: the older it is, the less chance it has of pollination, and then the bract begins to turn green, merging with the rest of the foliage, because it no longer needs to attract insects.
If, for aesthetic reasons, you do not want the bedspreads to be green, then you can carefully cut them off with scissors. This is also done to rejuvenate the plant. It will be easier for new inflorescences to appear (read about how often spathiphyllum blooms at home, when this process begins and how to help the plant). - Sometimes greening of spathiphyllum bedspreads can be a sign of a lack or excess of fertilizer. This phenomenon is called chlorosis. After the bedspreads turn green, brown-yellow formations begin to appear.
- Also, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause not only burns on the leaves, but also greening of the plant inflorescences. It is important to move the container with spathiphyllum in time to a place with softer light and low temperature.
- The fact that “female happiness” blooms green can equally be caused by both systematic flooding and, conversely, low humidity levels.
The disease is not the cause, but the consequence of this phenomenon. For example, if the soil is constantly waterlogged, then a fungal disease will soon appear, and green covers will only be its manifestation. This fungal attack, called late blight, primarily affects the neck of the root. Fungicidal drugs will help cope with it.
“Women's happiness” pleases the soul and the eye, but only if it is healthy and blooms. Read about what to do if there is no flowering and why there are no buds on our website.
Reasons for the appearance of green inflorescences before and during the flowering of female happiness
Why does the spathiphyllum flower turn green? The culprit may be improper application of fertilizers. This symptom often indicates an excess or deficiency of beneficial elements.
Diseases of spathiphyllum and methods of treating the flower of female happiness
The plant may also bloom green due to lack of lighting in the room. If white flowers appear on a crop, but then they change color, it is important to provide it with more light.
Important! In some cases, the appearance of green flowers is due to excess light. Direct sunlight on the bush also leads to this problem.
If the change in foliage shade is due to excess sun, the plant must be moved to a room with soft and diffused light. It is important to ensure that the bush is not in a too dark place.
Greening and dying of the blanket can occur with a sudden change in temperature. Most often this happens when the temperature drops to 15 °C. The cause of problems is violation of watering rules. If the soil is over-moistened, the plant may bloom green.
The green color of the bedspread occurs when the temperature regime is violated
Quite often, the provoking factors are various diseases. Infection of a culture can be suspected by the following signs:
- the plant does not bloom;
- leaves dry out or become stained;
- the plant stops growing and developing;
- flowers and leaves become small.
Why do spathiphyllum have green flowers? The following pathologies lead to this problem:
- root rot. When infected, green flowers appear on the bushes. The roots become covered with red spots, and the leaves become brown. If all fragments of the plant are affected, it dies. To save the flower, it needs to be transplanted into new soil and sprinkled with phytosporin. You can also use a solution of potassium permanganate. The affected fragments must be removed and the sections sprinkled with charcoal. The plant is moved to disinfected soil. To prevent the disease, it is necessary to normalize temperature parameters and watering regime;
- late blight This pathology develops in conditions of high humidity and constant overflow. Fungal spores provoke damage to the root collar. It acquires a soft consistency and begins to decompose. Late blight is considered one of the most dangerous pathologies, which is very difficult to cope with. To avoid infecting other crops, you need to destroy the flower itself and the soil in which it grew;
- chlorosis. This disease provokes a change in the color of the bedspread. The pathology is caused by violation of the rules of care and improper application of fertilizers. Chlorosis affects the roots, in particular during transplantation. The first symptoms of the disease include green flowers and the appearance of formations on the leaves. The spots spread quite quickly. To save the crop, you need to stop applying fertilizers and adjust the watering regime;
- gommosis. With this pathology, the stems, stipules and flowers become small in size. At the same time, the leaves wither and dry out. If the disease is protracted, the plant cannot receive nutrition. This leads to leaf fall and death of the crop. The infection usually comes from running water or from other plants. The greatest danger to spathiphyllum are callas, anthuriums, and dieffenbachia;
- sooty fungus. Infection occurs due to damage to the flower by parasites. When attacked by aphids or scale insects, the spathiphyllum becomes covered with a slimy substance. It provides a favorable environment for the proliferation of spores. Pathology provokes a change in the shade of the bedspread and the formation of a black coating. This leads to disruption of the photosynthesis process and the development of diseases. To save the plant, you need to use a soap solution and insecticidal preparations.
Changes in flower color are often associated with disease
How to prevent the appearance of unusual plant colors?
Accordingly, in order for the bracts not to turn green during the life of the plant, it is necessary to solve the problems listed above, gradually eliminating each one.
Content Rules
- Move the spathiphyllum to an eastern or western windowsill if it turns green during the growing season. If this happens in winter, then excessive illumination can be excluded from the list.
- In winter, keep the plant as far as possible from heating devices and spray it daily, thereby ensuring a sufficient level of humidity. During the growing season, spray as often as possible and do not keep in drafts.
- Constantly maintain a certain temperature in the room with spathiphyllum - 18 - 25 degrees (depending on the time of year).
- Establish a feeding regime, fertilize in doses, in small quantities.
Heat
The tropical flower loves warmth and bright, diffused lighting. The optimal temperature in summer is 22-25 °C. In winter, these parameters should not fall below +16 °C.
In plants located near heating radiators, the bracts (“spreads”) may begin to turn green due to the heat.
Spathiphyllum reacts in the same way to direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to the sun changes the color of the flower, and it can also get burned.
Preventing re-discoloration
Despite all the above reasons for this phenomenon, the most basic is the natural aging of spathiphyllum, and not disease, abnormal conditions or fungus.
- To ensure that the plant always has only white inflorescences, the green ones can be carefully cut off.
- Water the flower only when the top layer of the substrate dries and fertilize no more than once a week.
- And, of course, the right temperature, lighting and humidity.
It is impossible to do without the basic conditions for keeping spathiphyllum, and all prevention consists of maintaining comfortable conditions for the plant.
It is important to know that in some cases, even under ideal conditions for growing spathiphyllum, its inflorescences may turn green. This may be the end of flowering, or the aging process. This is an absolutely normal phenomenon and there is no need to be afraid of it.
What should I do to correct the situation?
If the flowers turn green, the following measures must be taken::
- Move the plant to a well-lit place (but at the same time without direct sunlight), without drafts and away from heating devices.
- Fertilize with any complex of mineral fertilizers (containing iron, phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, etc.).
- Regulate watering (perform the procedure every other day or as the top layer of soil dries).
- Perform pruning and transplant the plant into another pot with a new substrate.
- Treat the flower with any insecticidal agent (“Akarin”, “Antiklesch”, “Fitoverm”, “Aktellik”, “Aktofit”, etc.).
The action of the goddess Astarte
Place the flower pot on the window so that moonlight falls on it. This ritual is performed on the night from Thursday to Friday, during the waxing moon, in complete solitude. Stand by the window and, looking at the moon, inhale the aroma of the flower several times. Ask the goddess Astarte three times to send you love. Come up with a text in advance, trying to clearly formulate your desire. Describe the appearance, advantages, character of the man you would like to meet and love. Wait for the next full moon by lighting a candle in front of the plant every night.
With the newly born moon on the appointed night, open the window and again turn to the goddess Astarte, conjuring: “I give you, goddess of love and light, my dream. Return her to me along with your beloved.” When the next lunar cycle begins, love will definitely come.
For loving men
Not many people know the spathiphyllum flower. Not everyone knows the signs and superstitions about him. By giving a blooming spathiphyllum to his chosen one, a man experiences her feelings. If the flowers begin to wither, her interest weakens, her passion fades. If they continue to smell and bloom, she loves them.
If the plant does not bloom for a long time, there is no need to be alarmed. Just give him more attention.
Replant and propagate
Satiphyllum flowers need to be replanted regularly. Usually this procedure is carried out in the spring. However, if your flower is not ready for this yet, it is better to wait. Its roots should completely entwine the earthen ball in the same pot. If you are in a hurry with the transplant, the spathiphyllum will have difficulty settling into the new container and will refuse to bloom. The pot should be a centimeter and a half larger in diameter than the previous one. If provided with a significantly more capacious one, the plant will begin to mope. A drainage layer is required, at least a finger thick.
Spathiphyllum flowers are usually planted by dividing the bush. A sign that it is ready to divide is the branching of the shortened stem and the unfurling of new leaves at several points at once. Reproduction is usually combined with spring transplantation. The bush is divided into 2-3 fragments. Each of them must have a growth point and roots. If there are few roots, this is not a reason to refuse division: they will appear very soon. Pots for young plants should be no more than nine centimeters.
Ritual of money luring
You definitely need to take a look at the spathiphyllum (photo). Women's happiness (the signs and superstitions that exist among the population about it are the subject of our conversation) should be known by every representative of the fair sex. And we continue to tell you about this wonderful flower. What is the ritual of bewitching money?
Spathiphyllum must be placed in the room in which accumulations are stored. Place a yellow coin of any denomination under the pot, hang a green ribbon on the piece of paper, after tying a key to it. Read the wish silently or out loud, thereby consolidating and updating the goal. When the flower blooms, replace the green ribbon with a red one and transfer the key to it.
A little later, news will come about a tax cut, an inheritance, a salary increase, a profitable deal, a chance to open your own business, or simply an opportunity to get married.
Witchcraft qualities
Have you ever seen spathiphyllum (photo)? Women's happiness, signs and superstitions about it - this is what is interesting to most women. The flower that blooms first saturates the atmosphere of the house with magical power, contributes to the onset of family happiness, harmony, and prosperity. Old grievances disappear, disputes end, irritation disappears, misunderstandings disappear, disagreements are resolved by themselves. The soul gets rid of memories of past defeats, accumulated junk of disappointments. Hope for achieving prosperity and self-confidence awakens.
In order to make their wishes come true, people with a flower perform magical rituals.
What kind of soil does spathiphyllum like?
There is only one requirement for the land in which the plant is planted: it must be slightly acidic. If you prefer to buy a ready-made soil mixture, take a universal one. If you want to create the most comfortable conditions for your pets, prepare the soil according to one of the recipes below.
- Peat soil is taken in triple volume, leaf soil - in double volume, humus, sand and bone meal - one at a time.
- Leaf, humus, peat soil and sand are taken in equal quantities, and turf soil - in double quantities. Brick chips and charcoal are also added here.
The consistency of the soil should be loose or medium. Dense soils are not suitable for spathiphyllum.
Finding True Love
Some people like to look at spathiphyllum for a long time (photo). Women's happiness has extraordinary signs. What is the ritual for acquiring real love? Be positive. Carefully cut the flower and ask for forgiveness. Stand naked in front of a large mirror. Slowly move the flower over your face, head, body. Focusing on your emotions and feelings, imagine the man you love. The clearer and clearer his image is, the more fruitful the ritual. Draw the flower over your neck and chest. Stop in front of your heart and say: “I feel love. I believe in love".
Concentrate the energy in your lower abdomen and say: “I am waiting for love. I want love." Extend your hand with the flower towards the mirror and, looking into it, say the spell: “Behind me, servant of God (name), is love. Before me is love. Next to me, below me, above me is love. Love is calling me. My love will bring you to me. I will be loved and I will love. Amen". Repeat the ritual the next day.
How to understand why spathiphyllum flowers turn green
I purchased spathiphyllum quite a long time ago. At first, the flower wandered from room to room, since I still couldn’t decide on which windowsill it would be more comfortable - everywhere its leaves turned yellow and dried out at the tips, which meant excess sunlight.
In the end, I actually put the pot on a shelf not far from the southwest window. But another problem began: instead of white flowers (that is, flower bedspreads), bright green flowers began to appear on the bush, almost indistinguishable from leaves.
In the first weeks, I thought that this was necessary (they would “ripen”, or something like that), but later I realized: I was making some mistake in caring for them.
