Description of peony Coral Supreme
The Coral Supreme peony, as seen in the photo, is characterized by large spreading bushes. The shoots are strong, 90-100 cm high, and have a red tint at the base. They can easily withstand the load under the weight of flowers even after rain. This species belongs to the category of herbaceous peonies.
This hybrid does not require additional support.
Along the entire length of the shoots, narrowed dark green leaves are evenly located, which completely cover the bush. Thanks to this feature, the plant remains decorative throughout the season, even after flowering. Leaves and shoots take on a purple hue in autumn.
Important! Peony “Coral Supreme” is a light-loving plant; when placed in the shade, the crop grows leaves and blooms sparingly.
This hybrid is highly frost-resistant and easily tolerates temperatures down to -34 degrees. Therefore, the Coral Supreme peony is recommended for growing in the middle climatic zone.
After planting in a permanent place, the bush grows and begins to bloom fully in the 3rd year. Before this, it is recommended to remove single buds in order to redirect nutrition to the development of roots and shoots.
The hybrid is characterized by a powerful root system up to 1 m long. Therefore, an adult plant can provide itself with moisture even in the driest periods. In the upper part of the root system there are renewal buds, from which shoots grow every spring. This species can grow in one place for 10 years, but by 5-6 years the flowers begin to noticeably become smaller, so the bushes need to be replanted.
Features of flowering peony variety Coral Supreme
This hybrid belongs to the category of semi-double herbaceous peonies. Flowering period is mid-early. Its buds appear at the end of May and bloom in the first half of June. Flowering lasts 2-3 weeks, depending on weather conditions. During this period, the plant emits a pleasant, non-intrusive aroma.
Peony Coral Supreme is characterized by cupped, semi-double flowers. When blooming, their diameter is 18-20 cm. Initially, the color of the flowers is salmon-coral-pink with a light yellow center. The number of buds directly depends on the lighting and planting density of the bushes.
When fully bloomed, peony flowers acquire a pearlescent tint.

The stems are straight and strong, with a reddish color. Peony leaves are green and carved. The height of the bush reaches a meter in height. Flowering begins in early June.
Reproduction methods
The interspecific hybrid "Coral Supreme" reproduces in the same way as other species, by dividing the rhizome. This must be done in August or early September so that the seedlings can take root before the arrival of persistent frosts.
You can only divide the root of a plant older than 3-4 years. To do this, you need to dig up the mother liquor, clear it of soil, and rinse it with water. Then put the Coral Supreme bush in a cool place for several hours so that the roots soften slightly. This will make the division process much easier.
After this, use a sharp knife to cut the root into several “divisions”, each of them should have 2-3 renewal buds, and the same number of well-developed root shoots. After this, sprinkle the cuttings with charcoal and plant the seedlings in a permanent place.
Important! If a large number of renewal buds are left on the cuttings, they will not allow the root system to fully develop, since they will take away most of the nutrients.
What kind of variety is this
Peony Coral Supreme was bred in 1964. The hybrid is valued for its beautiful flowering and ability to withstand frosty winters without shelter.
Description, characteristics
Coral Supreme peony bushes reach a height of 90-100 cm. Strong shoots do not bend from rain and wind, so they do not need support. The pinnate leaves are green in summer and turn red in autumn.
Peony Coral Supreme
The buds begin to bloom at the end of May. Flowering lasts about 2 weeks. The petals are painted salmon pink, the middle of the inflorescence is yellow. When open, the buds reach 20 cm. They emit a delicate aroma. The root system is powerful, going deep up to 1 m.
Advantages and disadvantages
The positive qualities of the variety include the following characteristics:
- decorative appearance;
- flowering within 2 weeks;
- frost resistance;
- ease of care;
- Possibility of growing in a greenhouse.
No significant deficiencies have been identified in the variety called Coral Supreme.
Landing rules
In order for the Coral Supreme peony bush to fully grow and bloom luxuriantly, it must first be planted correctly. For the plant, you need to choose an open sunny area where moisture does not stagnate. In this case, the place must be protected from drafts. Therefore, it can be planted near a tree or tall shrub, but so that these crops do not block the sunlight.
The optimal period for planting the Coral Supreme peony is mid-September. The hybrid prefers to grow in loams with low or neutral acidity levels. If the soil is heavy clay, then the situation can be corrected by adding humus and peat.
Landing algorithm:
- Prepare a hole 50 cm wide and deep.
- Lay down a layer of drainage 5-7 cm thick.
- Sprinkle soil on top and make a slight rise in the center.
- Place a seedling on it, straighten the roots.
- Sprinkle with soil so that the renewal buds are 2-3 cm below the soil level.
- Compact the surface and water generously.
When planting, it is recommended to add a nutritious soil mixture of turf, leaf soil, humus and peat in a ratio of 2:1:1:1. You should also additionally add 40 g of superphosphate and 30 g of potassium sulfide.
Important! Nitrogen fertilizers cannot be added to the hole, as they have a depressing effect on the root system.
If you deepen the renewal buds too much when planting, the plant will not bloom, and if you leave them on top, they will freeze in winter.
Peculiarities
Regardless of the variety, all coral peonies have common characteristics:
- Large bush size. Most varieties grow up to 70–90 cm. The plants have a spreading crown and a well-branched root system.
- Frost resistance. These peonies feel great in the Russian climate and successfully winter when the thermometer drops to –40ºC.
- Moderate solarization and watering needs. Peonies grow well in open areas that get full sun most of the day. However, excessive solar activity can be detrimental to them. The soil in the flowerbed should always be moist. At the same time, stagnation of water or flooding of the area after the snow melts can provoke diseases of the root system.
- Drained neutral soil. Peonies do not like acidic soil. The maximum permissible pH level for normal growing season is 7.0 (recommended - 6.5). The soil should allow moisture to pass through and contain a small amount of clay. On heavy soils, peony roots develop poorly, which affects the size of the plant and the quality of flowering.
Information! To loosen the soil, dig up the flower bed with the addition of sand (1 bucket per 1 m²). The soil can be deoxidized by adding slaked lime (up to 500 g/m²).
Aftercare
The Coral Supreme peony needs to be watered only at the initial stage of growth. During the hot period, this should be done 2 times a week, and the rest of the time - when the top layer dries. It is also important to loosen the soil to allow air to reach the roots.
To prevent the growth of weeds and reduce moisture evaporation, it is necessary to lay humus mulch 3-5 cm thick at the base of the bush. The growth of the above-ground part in the first year after planting will be slow, which is normal. This is due to the active growth of the root system. In the second year, shoots will begin to grow and, possibly, the formation of several buds. They should be removed so that the plant does not waste its energy.
There is no need to fertilize young seedlings under 3 years of age if fertilizers were applied during planting. In the future, every spring during the period of shoot growth, the Coral Supreme peony must be watered with a solution of mullein (1:10) or chicken droppings (1:15). And during the appearance of buds, use phosphorus-potassium mineral fertilizers.
Preparing for winter
At the end of October, the shoots of the Coral Supreme peony need to be cut off at the base. You should also mulch the soil with a layer of humus 7-10 cm thick. The cover should be removed in early spring, without waiting for sustained heat, as this can lead to overheating of the renewal buds. Seedlings up to 3 years old need to be covered for the winter. For this it is better to use spruce spruce branches.
Important! Adult peony bushes "Coral Supreme" do not need shelter for the winter.
How to care?
The main rules for caring for coral peonies:
- moderate watering with warm water,
- complex feeding three times per season,
- loosening the soil between waterings,
- sanitary pruning in October-November.
Important! In the first 2 years, plant buds must be removed at the setting stage. This is necessary to stimulate the root system.
Pests and diseases
This interspecific hybrid is characterized by increased resistance to common pests and crop diseases. But if the growing conditions are inappropriate, the plant’s immunity decreases.
Possible problems:
- Powdery mildew. This disease develops at high humidity. It is characterized by a white coating on the leaves, which interferes with the process of photosynthesis. As a result, the plates fade. For treatment it is recommended to use “Topaz”, “Skor”.
- Cladosporiosis. A characteristic sign of damage is the appearance of brown spots on the leaves. Subsequently they increase in size. For treatment, it is recommended to spray the bushes with Bordeaux mixture twice every 7 days.
- Ants. These insects attack the peony during the formation of buds, which leads to their deformation. To eliminate the problem, it is necessary to treat the plant with Inta-vir.
- Aphid. This pest feeds on the sap of leaves and young shoots. Forms a whole colony. For destruction it is recommended to carry out treatment
Reviews from gardeners
Almost all gardeners note that peonies are very easy to care for. In just a few years, the plant grows, after which it can be propagated and a new one planted nearby. And, of course, everyone praises its appearance and aroma. For many, it is the peony, and not the rose, that is their favorite plant. So it’s definitely worth planting for anyone who just wants to make their plot beautiful and enjoy their luxurious and fragrant flower garden all summer long.
In the video below you can watch a review of the rare peony “Coral Sunset”.
The color scheme of different peonies is varied. Peonies with a coral tint have become very popular. Gardeners owe the appearance of peonies with an unusual shade to scientists L. Cousins, S. Wissing, A. Sanders. Now peonies with a coral tint have spread throughout the world and are popular with gardeners. The name “coral” means the shimmer of the stone; it is a mixture of bright pink, light orange, and fawn, shades in different combinations.

I constantly buy peonies in Podvorye. There has never been a re-sorting yet.
I take almost everything to the Compound. Excellent hydrangeas, rhododendrons beyond comment. By the way, in Hachman there is the University of Helsinki, a very winter-hardy deciduous rhododendron, up to -40.

Write everything you see. And then we’ll figure out what we can do.
Mayan roses OKS have a very high chance! Take a closer look at them. Still, 5 pieces per variety is not so much. We already have 5 varieties that are about to close. And this is already 25 pieces. Tantau - there are 10 pieces per variety, so you need to look for a company more intensively.
Hachman has currently ordered 34 pots out of the required 100.
In general, you should hurry up with the lists. Some items from the retail price list are missing. This is a kind of signal that wholesalers have already booked the volume of plants that was promised to this company. As soon as the minimum minimum for any of the price lists is reached, I send it all to Podvorye.

Neither my wallet nor my garden are made of rubber, but I want everything, but I still have to choose. And there is no time. While I'm rushing about in the peonies. For now in coral. If someone is also tossing around, here is a comparison of coral peonies Coral charm, Coral Supreme, Coral Sunset and Coral and Gold. Taken from here, from the Canadian site (sorry for the quality of the translation, I’m writing in a hurry):
Coral Sunset, 'Coral Charm,' 'Coral and Gold' and 'Coral Supreme' were all grown in similar conditions, next to each other. ALL coral peonies fade visibly to cream.
Coral Sunset – Slightly darker pink than 'Coral Charm,' the semi-double 'Coral Sunset' has very weak stems for me, although I have seen this variety with straight stems from the grower on shorter overall plants. For me they fall to the ground at the same speed as the heaviest terry peonies.
Coral Charm – Flowers open several days later than other coral peonies. Here 'Coral Charm' grows significantly taller than other corals under the same conditions. The stems are very straight, semi-double flowers have a beautiful lotus shape with cup-shaped petals + the plant is powerful and blooms readily. Blooms exactly a few days after 'Coral Supreme.'
Coral and Gold – This variety features a unique dark coral simple flower with beautiful stamens and a perfect cup shape. It is very surprising that this simple-flowered variety, growing between 'Coral Supreme' and 'Coral Charm' in the same conditions, has stems that bend to the ground. The flowers are especially short-lived, with the petals falling off soon after opening.
Coral Supreme – Flowers a few days earlier than Coral Charm, '10cm taller and somewhat fuller and a little darker, and these are the qualities that make it the king of the corals. Is it true.
Among these 4 coral peonies, I would recommend 'Coral Supreme' as the best, and 'Coral Charm' as a very close second, especially if you like tall stemmed peonies.
