I would like to invite you to discuss two varieties of LE Kings and Cabbage and Cajun's Royal Knockout. You will be surprised why I combined two such different varieties into one topic. Although, maybe not so different. Both with luxurious wavy “hair” of smooth shiny foliage and both varieties for lovers of green ruffles on flowers))) But I did not combine them for this reason. Both violets came to me as babies at approximately the same time, almost a year ago. They grew quite quickly, so now there are two fairly large rosettes, a little more than 30cm. Don't you think they have something in common (LE-Kings and Cabbage first photo))

But both beauties were in no hurry to bloom. Of course, you say, a year is not a long time. Agree. But during this year, not only the babies bought after these two years have already flourished, but also the babies I grew from leaves purchased much later. And, you yourself know how impatiently you always wait for the first flowers to appear))) A couple of months ago, when the day lengthened, I moved them to the window. And recently the first, long-awaited buds appeared. Now every day, first of all, I run to the window to check if the flowers have bloomed. But, like most “ruffles,” they open very slowly. Oh, I think they are competing to see who can bloom slowest)))

I am in no hurry to classify these two varieties as “slow-witted”; I think they simply belong to the “window” varieties, as I call them, i.e. They prefer natural light rather than lamps.

And now I invite you to discuss these two varieties, I really want to learn more about them and hear the opinions of the owners.

I think that Cabbage needs no introduction, since it is a fairly well-known variety of Elena Lebetskaya. But still, here is its description “from the author”: An abundant bouquet of lace stars the color of pink silk with large thick “fancy” green fringe. Dark black-green shiny, slightly wavy foliage. I can’t say anything about the “abundant bouquet” yet, we’re waiting, sir))), but the foliage is truly luxurious.

As for the second grade, things are not so simple. The variety is relatively new, 2012, breeder Belinda Thibodeaux. You might be interested to know that this is an American breeder, my “neighbor” who lives in Los Angeles. Not too much is known about her. I know that she is an ordinary “amateur violet grower” who decided to take up breeding “for the soul.” The result of her experiments was quite a few interesting varieties, such as: Cajun's Queen's Sugar (10492) 01/17/2012, Cajun's Popcorn, Cajun's Royal Jewels and many others. The violet variety NiL Evdokia, the photo and description of which is presented below, was created by Ukrainian breeder Nina Levaya . Nina lives and works in Kyiv. He has been collecting since 1974. Selection of Saintpaulias - since 2008. Nina selects the following traits for her varieties:

Violet Evdokia was created by breeder Nina Levaya.

• Frequent and long flowering;
• Bright flowers;
• Strong peduncles;
• Unpretentiousness in maintenance and reproduction.

Important! The names of its varieties are obtained from the association that arises in the author during the first flowering of the seedling.

Description of appearance

The Evdokia variety has large flowers , up to 6 cm in diameter. Round shape, simple. The color of the petals is fuchsia-pink, with a white-green fringe along the edge. The unopened flower has a fringe color of bright green, like duckweed.

After opening, the fringe on the petals remains fragmented. The variety has strong peduncles. NiL-Evdokia blooms for a long time. The foliage is medium green in color.

Sports

One sport variety has been identified, differing from the source by the wavy edge of the leaf.

Features of flowering, growth and reproduction

NIL-Evdokia:

• Easy to take root;
• Grows quickly;
• Unpretentious.

The interval between rooting of a leaf cutting and the first flowering is usually 8-10 months . There are exceptions when the first buds open after six months.

The variety can be propagated :

• Leaf cuttings;
• Or kids.

The temperature in the room where violets of this variety live does not affect the appearance and quality of flowering. Naturally, if it is within 17-24 degrees .

Peduncles:

• Sturdy;
• Not tall.

NiL-Evdokia loves to bloom. Already in the second flowering it will give a cap of bright, elegant flowers that will delight you for a long time.
